The club is a branch of the International
Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF), which
is a part of the
Japan Karate Association (JKA).
JKA is a non-profit
organisation where Shotokan karate is practised. Shotokan karate is a Japanese
style founded by Master Gichin Funakoshi. Shotokan is taught in or near all the
major universities around the world and is therefore one of the most popular
styles. In Jamaica, Shotokan is practised in most of the parishes.
The chief instructor of JKAJ (
JKA of Jamaica) is Sensei
Garry Turnbull, 6th Degree Black Belt. The President is Dr. Cyril
Fletcher, Head of Anatomy, UWI. Our instructor at the UWI is
Sensei David Richards, 5th Degree Black Belt. |
